A home health agency (HHA) is a public or private organization that offers skilled nursing and other therapeutic services in a patient's home. HHAs are crucial for individuals who cannot leave their homes for outpatient care or who have recently been discharged from a hospital or long-term care facility.
HHAs perform many of the duties that a caregiver performs, but their role and responsibilities stretch further to provide medical assistance as well. To receive home health care, a patient must first obtain a physician's orders and work with a home health care company to develop a care plan. To be certified as a Medicare home health provider, an HHA must have policies established by a group of professionals, including one or more physicians and one or more registered professional nurses, provide supervision of services by a physician or registered professional nurse, maintain clinical records, and be a public, nonprofit, or proprietary agency.
